Dr. Tina S. Alster – Dynamic Dermatology

A renowned expert on cosmetic dermatology and laser surgery, Dr. Alster graduated from Duke University Medical School before completing a dermatology residency at Yale University as well as a dermatologic surgery fellowship in Boston. In addition to writing over 300 articles for peer-reviewed medical journals such as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dermatologic Surgery, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Alster has written six widely-read textbooks on cosmetic laser surgery. She serves as the consulting dermatologist to Lancôme, assisting the company to develop new products and capitalize on industry trends.

Why did you choose the investment opportunity offered by MDVP?
First off, I fully embrace the concept of investing in what you know. That's been my guiding principle as I have expanded my practice from a small, second-story sublease to the 6,000 square foot, state-of-the art facility I own and work out of today. I understand cosmetic dermatology from the inside out and I know that staying up-to-date with the latest laser devices and cosmetic treatments is an essential investment in my success as a cosmetic dermatologist.
As a limited partner with MDVP, I'm in a position to evaluate ideas about innovative healthcare technologies and with my background I can get a good feel for some investments that have a big upside. As a holder of several patents myself for the development of medical devices that increase patient comfort following laser and other surgical treatments, I understand and appreciate the challenges of getting an idea off the ground and bringing it to market. By investing in healthcare, I feel more in charge of my investment.
What would you tell a colleague about becoming a limited partner with MDVP?
Like anything, I say do your homework first. Look at your portfolio and figure out your time horizons. See how much risk you're willing to take on to achieve your financial goals and really study the opportunities out there. For me, operating a hectic, growing practice and staying on top of the latest trends takes a lot of my time and attention, so when I was looking to expand my portfolio, I felt reassured that MDVP offered an investment where I could easily leverage my experience in medicine and translate that experience into financial growth. What is your long-range investment goal? What do you want your money to do for you?
I feel that in many ways, I'm at the height of my practice – I'm fortunate to be seen as a leader in cosmetic dermatology and to have resources I can set aside for investing. Over the years I've successfully treated thousands of patients, and I guess what I want most is for my money to work as hard as I do. That way, I have a steady footing to pursue my profession to the fullest while also having the financial freedom to spend time with my family, travel, and enjoy what life has to offer.
